The Black Canyon
1 Fusionopolis Way, #02-01/02 Fusionopolis (Connexis Tower), Singapore
Ok one thing I hate about my workplace is the lack of food, esp halal food. So some resturants here compromise by saying they dun use pork or lard in their cooking. But to be on the safer side I always order anything that is seafood.
I read the set meal menu. Interesting choices. I can mix and match. And everyday, different menu. So I decided to have a small bowl of Tom Yum Soup for appetiser, Thai Fried rice with chicken which I changed to Seafood instead as main course and dessert a scoop of chocolate ice cream. And to top it off a glass of Ice Lemon Tea. All for $14.90. Quite reasonable.
The Tom Yum Soup, my word, full of seafood. Prawn and squids and mushrooms. Too me the spicyness i give it a 6. But I usually hold on from finishing it as I'm waiting for my main course. So I can pour some onto the rice. My rice came and the colour is wonderful. I can see the prawns and mind you they are so fresh! Not spicy although I asked it to be spicy but flavourful. I pour my soup to add more flavours.
Worth every cent!

Haji Kadir & M Baharudeen Sup Tulang
505 Beach Road, #B1-13/15 Golden Mile Food Centre, Singapore
For my international friends, Sup Tulang is an Indian dish, actually goat's bones cooked in deep red spicy sauce. Legend has it, long time ago, a man came to have his dinner but was told all are finished, left the bones with some meat left on them. So the Indian man (we call him mamak) decided to improvised a dish and TADA! Our very own dish!
But the part everybody loves is not the meat around the bone, not the gravy. IT'S THE BONE MARROW! In the bone! But to suck it out there are a few methods. You can use a straw. Or like me knock it on the plate. The white soft marrow oozed out. Delicious! Sorry there's no photo of it as my hands were all red! You can see the evidence.
By the way, this stall is the best of the best!

BBQ Chicken
Junction 10 1 Woodlands Road, #01-30 Junction 10, Singapore
After almost 1 year, Junction 10 (formerly known as Ten Mile Junction) reopens. And what did I see when I scanned the list of new shops - BBQ CHICKEN!!! Jump for joy! Oh wow! The last time I tasted the chickens was 2 years ago.
So me and my husband decided to head there after shopping at Giant. We saw an offer, buy 2 main courses and get one of the following for free. The free were from main courses to desserts. So I said to my husband, "let's get dessert"
Men will never listen. I ordered 2 Spicy Drums and he ordered Black Pepper Chicken. So the free item he ordered Cajun Fish. How the hell are we gonna finished 3 main courses? :P
Anyway I always ordered the usual drums and for those who cannot stand spiciness, please do not eat this. I love this coz its sweet and spicy. Each main course we had a choice of 2 sides. So I chose Mash potatoes and coleslaw. Both are quite good but I have tasted better. My husband's Black Pepper, it's alright for me. Not so peppery. But it's ok. My husband chose fries and coleslaw. For the free item, the fish was fried. Not my fav though although my husband happily finished it up. I did not like the sauce at all. Man we were so full.
Service wise, the food came first before the drinks. So imagine me eating very spicy drums, and hit my tastebuds, I was trying not to shed a tear. It took bloody long time for the drinks to come to the rescue.

New Hawa Restaurant
213 Selegie Road, Singapore, 188336
After watching DCFC concert at Fort Canning, I complained to my husband, "Hungry" So he drove us to New Hawa Restaurant. New Hawa has one of the best Halal chicken rice in SIngapore. But I was not interested in eating plain old chicken rice. So I opted out for Lemon Chicken Rice instead. Hmmm... the rice was so flavourful. And the lemon sauce on the chicken fillet is so nice and thick. Not watery like I have seen some. Appetisers we got ourselves some chicken wantons. Nice and crispy, dipped with dark soy suace. Heaven...
Eighteen Chefs
1 Fusionopolis Way, #B1-12/13 Fusionopolis (Connexis Tower), Singapore
One more place I would recommend at my work place. 18 chefs. It is the only halal certified restaurant in the whole building, but to eat there everyday, I would feel the pinch. Anyway I usually order this and I always tell my friends and collegues to try and they are hook! How did it all happen?
I browse thru the menu and saw Root Beer Fish and Chips. Hmmm... sounds different I thought. I didn't really like the pasta that much.
So when my dish came, and I totally forgot that it's Root Beer. So I cut the fish (BTW the fish is huge) and put it in my mouth, it's just like explode with flavour! I was like OMG it does taste like root beer. I was so in love from then on. Dipped it in tartar sauce. Oh wow! Totally unexpected! It only cost $12.90 with soup and garlic bread. Add $1 more ice lemon tea.
You can also find 18 chefs at Tiong Bahru Plaza and East Point Mall

Streats
1 Jelebu Road, #03-05/07 Bukit Panjang Plaza, Singapore
After a few months of not having lunch at Streats, me and my husband decided to eat there. We were "greeted" by the staffs. Noted the word "greeted" cause as we were walking past them, they did not have eye contact while greeting. So we didn't know who they greeted so we didn't greet back.
We looked thru the menu and I saw Claypot Chicken Rice so I decided to get that as it's one of my favourite dishes in SIngapore. And my husband got Sweet and Sour Chicken with rice. I called for a server. A tall pretty chinese lady. She greeted us in Mandarin. We don't blame her. We look like Chinese with our fair skin.
But anyway I did talked in English but she replied back to me in Mandarin. She even repeated the order in Mandarin. I wanted to ask for some mayonaise or add cili padi, I decided not to as I didn't know how to converse.
Food arrive, my husband's order well so-so. Not to our liking. Passable. Added a sunny side egg to it. For mine well... in my head, claypot chicken rice will be rice smothered with soy sauce. It's not. Plain white rice with chicken fillet, pieces of dried sausage and salted fish. To added more taste, a small bowl of soy sauce. Pretty sad.
To eat there again, I will say never again espcially with the high price but unsatisfactory food.

The Chicken Rice Shop
1 Harbourfront Walk #01-04 L'occitane - Vivocity, Singapore 098585
Yet again. Chicken Rice. This time we decided to try a Malaysia chain of chicken rice shops. This time I let my husband do the ordering. The menus is pretty confusing so please ask of any doubts. For appetisers, he chose braised tofu and egg. Verdict: Nice. As there are not many shops sell this.
Then he ordered 2 plates of chicken rice. honey roasted and bbq. The food well ok but the price was a bit too expensive. We rather eat at a hawker centre, But at least the chicken was tender and mostly boneless. Plus 2 drinks the food came up to $24. Pretty pricey for 2 people meal.

Tong Seng Coffeeshop
496 North Bridge Road S188739
A VERY GOOD HALAL COFFEESHOP SITUATED IN THE CITY!!!
If you're looking for a halal food joint but not feeling the pinch and not wanting to eat at shopping center, this is the place for you. My husband introduce this coffeeshop a couple of years ago and I was amazed but the quality of the food.
Just get out of Bugis Junction exit near Swenson's and cross. It situated right at the main road. You can find from chicken rice to fishball soup to Chinese rojak at such affordable prices.
We went to second floor so to be away from the hustle and bustle but unfortunately the kids from polytechnics made so much noise. Ahhh... When I was their age.
I ordered prawn noodles. Reason is I have never taste prawn noodles and most shops sell are made of lard. Oh wow... it's not thick like Lor Mee, good quantity of yellow noddles, fishcakes and fresh prawns. To make it spicy just ask for cili padi.
My husband as usual ordered chicken rice. We also ordered You tiao and fried wanton. Delicious! Oh by the way, payment is not one shot, when all the food came. It's everytime they serve a food or drink, u pay for that.
In all I think we pay less than $16 for 4 dishes and 2 drinks
